The Ghost of Ian Curtis (And Other Strangeness)

by Dwite Fry   Aug 2, 2007

I thought I heard a Manc say fade away, fade away
As I sat on the curb in Macclesfield fade away fade away
Was it all this Manc could say fade away, fade away
I had my beer goggles on but on the pathway I swear I saw Ian Curtis
And I swear I could hear Iggy Pop playing

I thought I heard a Manc say? Fade away, fade away
As I lay in a precinct in Macclesfield fade away, fade away
The whole place smelt like tree and I was wasted but I could see
In the streetlight Wendy O Williams Mohawk bobbing away
And I swear I saw Ian Curtis
And I swear I could hear Iggy Pop Playing

I thought I heard a Manc say fade away fade away
When I woke up in a Travellodge in Manchester, fade away fade away
With a jackhammer in my head - is Wendy O Williams dead?
But she doesn't come from Macclesfield anyway
I thought I heard a Manc saw fade away, fade away
As I went to for a shave, fade away fade away
And I looked in the mirror and I swear I saw Ian Curtis
And I swear I could hear Iggy Pop playing

Don't get high on painkillers and write a lyric/poem, this comes out.

Ian Curtis was the lead singer with Joy Division who was born in Manchester and died in Macclesfield. He hung himself after reportedly playing 'The Idiot' by Iggy Pop. Wendy O Williams was the lead singer of The Plasmatics, she killed herself in a wood near her home in America. she doesn't come from Macclesfield. A 'Manc' is a (often less than complimentary) slang term for someone from Manchester.
