Living in Peace

by Lauriel Chambers   Aug 7, 2007

Leaves flutter
in a summer breeze
the air's warmth
puts her mind at ease

Water bubbles
in a tiny stream
time means nothing
like she's in a dream

The sun's rays stretch
to stroke her face
the sweet scent of lilac
fills this place

Breathe in, breathe out
this is so serene
most stunning place
that she's ever seen

Butterflies land
on a limb nearby
she observes and
starts to wonder why

Traffic's moving
slow as it can be
cars are backed up
far as she can see

What a dumb birthday gift
someone gave her last fall
it's a self-help cassette tape
that's been no help at all

Why does this always happen
when she's in such a rush?
that big box of popsicles
will be nothing but slush

She should have been home
half an hour ago
right lane's closed today?
how come she didn't know?

Car horns honking
cool breeze blowing
backed up traffic
warm sun glowing

Pulling forward a bit
she stops and sighs
then gives "Living in Peace"
another try

The sun's rays stretch
to stroke her face
the sweet scent of lilac
fills this place

Breathe in, breathe out
let's drive faster please
green leaves flutter
in a summer breeze.
