On the Coast of Somewhere Beautiful [Glosa Verse]

Lines taken from the song On the Coast of Somewhere Beautiful;
Originally sung by Kenny Chesney.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sometimes when the sun goes down,
Shadows fall across this little town,
And I close my eyes and I drift away,
To another place in another time.

I painted such a pretty picture in my head,
And I asked you to join me in eternity,
Of all the lines you`ve ever used on me,
You couldn`t think of one to use this time.
And the sky is blue, the clouds are grey;
On my beige face; I drew in a little frown,
And there`s an empty space of paper,
With no color or shape to add in anymore,
But I still dress up in your favorite gown;
Sometimes when the sun goes down.

The sun is yellow, and the flowers are bright;
And I even took the time to draw the taillights,
Red and shining - contrasting the tears in my eyes.
I take in the good along with the bad,
And I see the pretty alongside the ugly.
The grass is green and the dirt is brown,
The birds are flying through the sky; soaring high,
With the wings that I took from my heart,
Because without you; it fades from my tears that drown -
Shadows fall across this little town.

I spent all last night with the radio down on low,
And this lamp shining down on this picture,
But I couldn`t find the right color for my smile,
Should I paint it in pink and happy because we`re still friends?
Or maybe a tinge of grey because we can`t be more?
I know that it doesnt` have to be this way,
But what other way is there for me to go about this?
It`s my breach of sanity within all of the chaos; so I sit,
Playing that old message just to hear the words you say,
And I close my eyes and drift away.

I traced an outline for your body so that one day,
When you come running back to me it will be there;
[And I know that you`ll come running back, you always do.]
But I`m so sick of waiting, wishing, praying; just to find,
That maybe my hands never fit perfectly together with yours,
But you never let me fall back into reality; no no, not on your dime.
You always said you were happiest with me,
So I hold onto those empty words with much needed hope;
And paint in a ladder to your heart so that I can climb,
To another place in another time.

Glosa-Verse: A Spanish form invented by court poets in the 14th and 15th centuries. An opening quatrain, called a 'cabeza' is chosen from another poet, or song. The glosa elaborates or 'glosses' on the quatrain with four ten line stanzas, their concluding lines taken consecutively from the quatrain and their sixth and ninth lines rhyming with the borrowed tenth.
