Family ties

by Mo   Aug 8, 2007

She left him with a glass of milk
and half a ham and cheese sandwich
No warning of her complete departure
No guess as to why or how or who
just a fading shadow to grace our halls

You left us standing at the doorway
no clue as to what we had done wrong
just knowing you were tired
and... well, thats it - just tired
and that we were your burden of insomnia

Time clocked on, and time went by
I could taste its metal hands
choking the memories of you from my mind
and still I cant cry for you
You call it a heart of stone, but I call it mine

I hear the rumours about you, mum
whispered by skeleton ghosts and passing spirits
we were once so close
but distance has severed our bond
and the changing times have clouded your judgment

You claim to look so deep into me
but your eyes dont leave yourself
for, why am I the broken one
when the pieces lie at your feet?
You cannot glue them together any more

And yet you come back to me
My heart of stone bleeds once more
and the flutter makes me realise its not dead
Just as we are not dead
You were forgiven before you even asked.
