1 man and his horse

by jason   Aug 10, 2007

The first time i saw you ,you were was only three
i had just done two years in the state penitentiary
your stables looked shabby needed to be torn down
your coat white and dusty with a hint of brown
i took you from there you cost me a dollar
and from that day my commands you would follow
you grew to love my wishes, expected
in every state we got rejected
under the stars each night we looked
like one man and his horse from an old story book
i fed you and kept you warm
you told me of trouble with a stomp and a snore
our last days together probably the best
you were sixteen and still looking fresh
we traveled our last days together
hugged up tight on a saddle made of cows leather
the shot came from nowhere straight through your heart
i saw the look of horror as if its your fault
my best friend Santana i was too blame
little did i know the posse knew my name
you carried me another two miles to the trees
until there was no life left you slumped to your knees
those big eyes rolled and blinked there last drop of love
i managed to crawl and hide in the shrub
no pain just burning,i felt dazed and hurt
i managed to take four of the bastards before i hit the dirt
i crawled back to you and lay ed by your side
you were still warm,it went dark and thats were we died.

I love this poem very much, personally I think its one of the best i've read.
I love horses, and it has such a great impact on me-the love that you share between yourself and you faithful friend.
