Alone on the hill

I wake up to pitch black
I had another bad dream
I wonder when you'll be back
It's been forever it seems

I get out of my bed
and walk across the floor
I put on my dressing gown
and tiptoe out the door

I walk through the hallway
and down the stairs
I walk out the back door
and smell the fresh air

I look up at the hill
where we used to play games
if you don't come back
it'll never be the same

I go to the hill
and my eyes start to cry
and I can't help but remember
I never said good-bye

I try and imagine
my life without you
would I get married?
would I have kids too?

But I can't think of that
It just seems so wrong
I try to stay hopeful
but you've been gone for so long

And what if you don't come back?
how will I live?
I gave all my love to you
I have no more to give

But I have to have faith
that you will return
I must push out the image
of you in an urn

So I'll stay on this hill
until your task is through
and no matter what happens
I'll wait for you
