The Night and Us

by BrittanyLouise   Aug 11, 2007

Looking up by the maple leaves
My thoughts go back to a memory

Beside the house, beneath a shadow
In the bush, a bird sings solo

Crickets' anthem, an unsynchronized chorus;
The soft moonlight and the Night adore us.

Little flashes of green blink like time
They take me back to when you were mine.

Almost as if, in the world, we were alone
The Night and us, free to roam.

A gushing breeze finds leaves at rest
You squeezed my hand and I took your breath.

We kissed like the moon kisses the night
Somehow, again, the world was set right.

I looked once more to the maple tree
Smiling, I remember...you and the night and me.
