These Tears

Silent tears hidden in the dark
tears from hidden hate
tears flowing freely
of this discovered fate

tears from promises
left unfulfilled
from overflowing eyes
these tears have spilled

tears from a mother
crying fro her children
who's dad doesn't pay child support
time and time again

tears of a homeless man
broken-hearted with despair
trying to find a place to sleep
finding scraps of food here and there

a teenage parent
wondering how to get by
how to pay bills
tying not to cry

a family at a funeral
for a child who died to young
tears from pain
and words that stung

tears from the outcast
left on his own
no one to talk with
he eats lunch alone

tears from a wife
hiding yet another bruise
cause he feels the only answer
is to yell and abuse

tears from a child
trying to understand
why he hides from the real world
living in a make-believe land

these tears of mine
falling down my cheek
from failed attempts to find
the happiness i seek
