Never Know

by Evelyn   Aug 12, 2007

His eyes brightened, her eyes stayed dull.
He made jokes, she hardly laughed.
He stepped closer, she stepped back.
He held on, she went on.
He hurt, she didn't.

. . . But . . .

My eyes will brighten, he'll never know.
I'll make jokes, he'll never know.
I'll step closer, he'll never know.
I'll hold on, he'll never know.
I'll hurt, he'll never know.
