Better Late than Never

by Chelsey   Aug 12, 2007

Nine tables aligned in crooked, dusty rows
Third table, fourth chair, there I sat
I played with my food and stared out the window
Just about everyday, questioning where my real parents were at

Dressed up, all clean and looking pretty
As I sit here trying to eat
Another family from the big city
Coming here for us to meet

I've already stayed with the Johnson's
Them and their 50 animal home
Already been with the crack headed Smiths
I just can't wait till I'm 18 and out on my own

I'll pray that this new family
Won't hit me like the last one
The bruises have finally faded
And the guilt of that man has begun

I hope they don't have a boy
That decides to rape me in the dark night
Because all these battles I've been through
Has slowly made me give up the fight

Longing for a real home
Filled with laughter and love
People who care no matter what
A family I can truly be a part of

One day when I was sitting there
Again, playing with my food on my plate
A mother came in with tears in her eyes
She said "Sorry baby that I'm years late"

"But I was really young and scared
the boy ran and left me alone
my own parents disowned me
so I had to give you to a home"

Tears fell out of my eyes as forgiveness sinked it
It seemed like I was waiting around forever
"Momma, I'm ready, get me out of this place
I forgive you....its better late than never"

This was a collab done with Angela!!...Not sure how the idea came about but I enjoyed writing this Ang!! Your awesome! I love you!

Excellent poem. I almost cried at the beginning because it was extremely sad but the ending was beautiful.

    "Longing for a real home
    Filled with laughter and love
People who care no matter what
A family I can truly be a part of"

That was my favourite stanza. The flow was amazing and the rhyming was spot on.

Overall, you two did a wonderful job with this collab.
