Dating With Your Highness

by Soulful Ensemble   Aug 13, 2007

Her eyes changed their color just now,
As she looked down from her balcony
And grinned with jubilation as she put her arm around me.
"I gave the orders out", she said, " its part of my decree"
"You can't leave this room my darling, because I have the key."
Then she left me there, trying to be free
But in my heart I knew that it just couldn't be.

I laid down to sleep, and saw her eyes changing into green,
They looked into space, puzzling me, with a stare that was so mean
It forced me to wonder how it could have been.
I asked myself what I had done, to deserve this kind of scene,
And if there was anything now that was left unclean.
She took away my glory and killed my liberty
And left me here drowning in antipathy.

Here she comes again, the Queen of England, crying out her orders,
Wondering with her gestures, if anybody in the world is competent.
She passes out her pamphlets and brochures to convince me to stay cool,
As I sit alone, high in her mystery room
With her guillotines and torture devices, that are supposed to bring me doom.
She steps inside and looks down on me, with her blue eyes that turned green,
And asks me if I'm ready to lose my winning streak.

I stood up to her just once, saying," move away please, you're catching all the light,"
She replied, " you're wasting my air, why don't you say good bye?"
"Because I'm not ready to die", I said, " I haven't seen the sky"
"Let me out of here so I can watch it shine."
"I'm sorry dear, but its night time, so why don't you resign?", she cried.
"Theres nothing more to see"
"Except a few drunk men, fighting over me."

Her men then grabbed me, taking me apart, and pushed me out the door and into the car,
They told me it was Sunday and gave me a guitar,
To make me play a song for them before they got too far.
I sang Sad-Eyed Lady of The Lowlands and it brought tears to their eyes,
Then I said their queen was evil, while driving through the boulevard.
Their eyes looked into mine, telling me our feelings were mutual,
And with a somber sigh they led me out into the courtyard.

I saw the Queen coming out of the car, three steps behind me,
She held the noose in her hand and walked up to me.
"I hope its comfortable", she said to me,
And placed the rope on my neck, tightly.
I walked up to the stage, where I would die rapidly,
The Queen put on a black mask and held me.
" This is our last hug," she said happily,
And kicked the stool I stood on, choking me.

The queen vowed for her audience and was clapped for,
All of her supporters yelled and asked for more
So she picked, at random, many other men to kill.
They came up the stairs smiling, awaiting what came to me,
And the Queen's eyes changed to silver as she began to cry
"Why does everyone I love always have to die?"
Her eyes turned blind, and she was very confused,
So she went home and slept, to escape her gloom.

I love how your poems tell a story. They're like a short well rhyming novel
