Captain Crook and Saint Luke

by Soulful Ensemble   Aug 13, 2007

Hateful little man,
Watching like a child
And faithful like a dog.
I see all of your commands
And answer them with brave audacity
Like a police man.

Bleeding little fairies,
Above the rainbow
Looking down on everyone.
Free from blame and full of naught.
Yes, every time i bring it up it seems to bring you down,
You wouldn't know it if it hit you now.

Scornful like death,
Watching the clock all day
Holding your scythe by your chest like your life depends on it.
I see the misty night hovering behind you,
And the reflection of your aura in the lake scintillating--
While I recall that you don't have a heart.

Scum, drying in a puddle of mud,
I see you hardening into a crust.
The homeless winos who step on you, they say,
" Something looks worse than we do!"

Robotic emotions, you know them well,
You keep them inside until they swell.
I know your type so well, and you know that i can tell,
Everyone is under your spell.

I had that toy once, in my hand,
It burned down through the sky with a black spiral
And I never saw it again.
But I got over the hill,
Happiness is everywhere
While you're morose and I don't care.

Why the sullen silence, man?
I don't have the time to wait for your reply,
I'm quixotic yes I know,
But I'm ready for your lies, I come prepared.
Yes, Saint Tiruvalluvar, I read your Kural,
I can't say I agree with you tonight.

The children put their weapons down,
I gave them my request
After waving the white flag
And getting some rest.

I read your parable Saint Luke,
Can't say I approve.
I don't believe in servitude
And neither should you.

The sheep cross the road,
Led by a flag-less flag pole.
To the side with no grass,
And a fur coat.

Ungrateful slob, sitting in a chair,
Rocking back and forth with stories to tell.
Nobody listens to you now,
Go outside and collect more shells.

So here's my time,
Put to good use.
While I carve a trail to the new saloon,
I'll shovel around and notice you.

You empower yourself King Henry the 8th,
"Yes, I'm facilitating life for them"
" They need me in their lives, and i need them", you say.
"I'm better than you because I play this game,"
"And there's no other way."

Yes and no is your reply to every question.
You want to have it every way.
So that you're always wrong but always smiling,
At the confusion from your songs.

You're the worst of them,
You drink the water from the well until its gone,
Just to show them how you fill it up again
And make them want to learn
But you never teach them because you're afraid to lose your game.

Your face comes up, out of the ground,
A giant set of pillars follows closely behind.
That song you love to hate is playing in my mind,
And I feel the rain covering me tonight.

Decrepit little giants,
ordering Einstein around for a new law,
And having soft voices that are hoarse;
But the genius only listens to a smiling tone.

Listen to you Captain Crook,
Captain Smarter, Captain Better-Than-You,
Captain Conniver, Captain Deprive,
Captain Jivin'; too busy to smile,
But not enough to grin.

And your mistress, she has too much time for judging you--
Not enough to judge herself, while mistreating you.
She never opens the books to learn,
She opens them to laugh at you;
You open them to judge yourself too harshly.

Your curly red hair is shinning,
And you're staring at me while glaring evilly and suspiciously.
If you could see it now, you'd yell " Satan!"--
And be too scared to believe that it's yourself you see.

Your pointy horns and feet,
Are enough for me to believe
Your staring eyes are serious
But your vibe is weak.

You stare at me in disbelief,
What's wrong Saint Luke? can't you see?
Your darling has your noose,
And you're supposed to chase her for it
Until she wants to hang you on it.

You have your ship docked, I saw,
Its very shinny, indeed.
Perhaps you'll take me for a ride again,
Then leave me out to dry again.

I knew a girl, she was named Raquel,
She took her own life after going down to the pearl store,
Where they exchange your hard earned money for a door
That you can always open but never walk through.

You bought your smile,
You worked so hard for it.
But then you died, like everyone does,
And you never said " I'm sorry,"
For the condescending scorn you gave the world.
Your ostentatious grandiloquence was quite a pain,
I told you many times it was in vain.

Captain Crook, you're nobody's fool,
You say "the sky is green, the grass is blue."
You know everything, and nothing,
And you're always ready to reply what nobody saw coming.

You offer to hold me, but I like to be alone,
Your kisses and your hugs are not loving
And we just can't get along.
Yes darling, you are wrong,
I do go to throngs and see other people,
And to learn to sing your songs--
You're not the only one who knows them well,
You don't want to hear me sing them but I will.

Tomorrow is another day,
I don't wanna play this game
I don't like the rules you use,
And I have no time to choose.
Yes or no?
I just started, now, to feel obtuse,
I'm a little tired and I call a truce.
But I want you to know I could go on forever,
After beginning an endeavor.

This one is about how I felt in high school every day. Just the feeling of being trapped and helpless while all of your creative emotions are driven and forced out of you.
