America Will Rise Again

by Independence Forever   Aug 14, 2007

Our checkered past, littered over the years
war, depression, victory, and many tears

once great, we have hit a bad slump
a revival of patriotism, a great jump

remember the fallen, bring back the spirit
the words of great patriots, can't you hear it?

bring back the glory, discard the bad
reinstate the freedom that we once had

lift the flag, and honor it's symbol true
believe in America, our dreams anew

Rome, Babylon, Persia, and Greece all fell
but America will rise, and evil will it quell

Straight up, I like the idea, pointing backwards as a lesson, to today at where America is, and to the future where we need to be. Topic is great, but for from. I think maybe you should have let yourself go a little more. Some of the rhyme seems kind of petty and almost laughable, making the whole poem feel as if you squeezed ten pounds of great idea into a five pound bag of style. Let the ideas fulfill themselves instead of sticking them into the style you decide. And if the words rhyme they rhyme, if they don't they don't.
