Pain and Love

by LovesColdEmbrace   Aug 15, 2007

Pain, an ache that lingers in the heart
pain derived from an emptiness
an open gash, that tears you apart
a wound that will never fully heal

Pain gained from being betrayed
and from a fear that you will always be alone
and you pray that it will eventually fade
so you can glue together the remnants of your heart

You blindly soar so high
on the fragile wings of love
until you can no longer fly
and you come crashing down on the concrete

You bandage the cuts and wait for the bruises to heal
so you can do it all over again
just so you can feel
even if only for a little while

Love, such a fickle emotion
there one moment, gone the next
but necessary to put your life in motion
only to send it into a grinding halt

Love, filled with utter confusion
a blissful dream that can turn into a horrifying nightmare
a mind-controlling illusion
that can be destroyed with a single word

So why do we persist
in the heartbreaking quest for love?
Why do we continue to hurt ourselves for something that may not exist?
I just wish I knew the answer.
