The Weight Of The World

by Letty   Aug 16, 2007

Pressing down upon me,
With all its trials and its burdens.
Holding me back from my achievements,
Lessening its hold for no man.

Placing dreams before me,
As if they were easy to obtain.
Keeping me striving day after day,
Praying my work is not in vain.

Not caring about its heaviness,
Forcing me to carry its full weight.
An image of me at the finish line,
Glancing back at my mistakes.

Breaking down from all its obstacles,
Thrown in my way for distractions.
This world has no place for misery,
But it's not always filled with laughter.

Trying to keep my head above water,
Because I really don't want to drown.
There's no emergency team to rescue me,
When the world is weighing me down.

    Letty,

I now appreciate your praise even more with regards to my own use of imagery, you relate your feelings of helplessness and despair very purposefully and eloquent in this piece... the vision of looking back at the finish line and of drowning with the weight of the world upon you, it's very vivid. So as I said, I'm humbled by the praise of someone who she herself has such a great and unique mastery when it comes to the use of imagrey!

    Cheers,
    Richard

Well written Letty, I too feel the weight of the World on my shoulders sometimes. We keep striving on, day after day, glancing back at our mistakes, because we do not want to drown. So we become stronger through Life's trials and errors.
    Peace and Blessings

What a beautiful piece you have written, Miss Letty. It truly is very poignant: it touches my heart completely. I believe each and every human being undergoes such hardships in life in order to achieve a desired outcome, so to speak. The general idea was pulled off excellently by you. Regards.
