Dear mister Alzheimer

by purplemadness   Aug 19, 2007

When I get old and my memory is starting to ease away,
Will you at least leave the memories for which I pray?
You can erase some woman I'd like to forget,
Forgetting them I wouldn't regret.
You can let me forget all the places I ever stood,
And all those times that I was no good.

Dear mister Alzheimer, can't we make a deal,
Take all the bad memories, but leave the ones that made me feel,
Those that made me feel that I was alive and sound,
You can have those when they put me in the ground.
I can give you the thoughts of woman I loved long ago,
But my loved ones please don't let them go.

When I am old and my daughter is a real wonderful lady,
Don't let me forget how she was as a baby.
You can take away all those times I was as sad as can be,
But the memories of my family, don't take that away from me.
Dear mister Alzheimer, I am telling you the way I feel,
Tell me now; is there a way we can make a deal?

You can take away all the music I loved so much,
But don't erase the memory of her magic touch.
Don't take away the image of friends that passed away too,
Because without them, I would't know what to do.
Is there a way that we could settle this the way I desire?
Before death puts out my inner glowing fire.

Please, never let me forget the people that meant the world to me,
Because in my thoughts it's them I still see.
Take away all bad and painful days,
But my precious thoughts, don't take them away.
Don't think I don't have feelings because I have,
Let me cherish the memories that made me laugh.
The happy memories of all those people are part of the way I feel,
Dear mister Alzheimer, can we make this deal?
