What We've Become

by Viola   Aug 19, 2007

A guitar with a broken string
That just doesn't sound right

A butterfly with broken wings
Falling while trying to fly

Milk left out of the refrigerator
That has now gone sour

A flower picked out of the ground
That has started to wilt

A tap dripping in the kitchen sink
That annoying sound

Day old fruit left out on the counter
That has started to rot

A roof neglected of repair
That leaks on a rainy day

An old photograph on the shelf
That's collecting dust

A beautiful necklace in that music box
That's now starting to rust

The addiction to a cigarette
That's losing its appeal

A sculpture of two lovers
That's starting to break apart

That, he said, that's what we've become

That is so sad... My that was sad. But I really liked it. It was a very different piece that what I have read in the past from other poets... It stuck out and I got great imagery. I actually saw rotting food and the puddle the leaky roof caused. It was a well done piece.
    Keep it up!
