Shadow on the Sideline

by Hatori   Aug 19, 2007

We met that day,
And became good friends,
Until I introduced you,
To a "friend" I knew.

You took to her,
Like a needle and thread,
Becoming perfect friends...
Only soon to be lovers.

Standing on the sideline,
I watched your bond grow,
I watched as you smiled,
You laughed, you cried.

At first, this made me smile,
Watching and waiting,
But before long, I realized,
That to you, it was more.

Confessing your love,
She hugged you and said,
"I love you too,"
That moment is unforgettable.

Your e-mails to me,
Ceased to exist,
And I lost a friend,
As fast as we'd met.

Standing on the sideline,
I watched your bond grow,
I watched as you smiled,
You laughed, you cried,
But I can't bear to watch,
My existence slowly fade.

The depth and emotion you put into this are overwhelming. easily felt by the reader. i thought it flowed well throughout and again the repetition worked nicely. the ending was beautiful...full of emotion and holding so much power...beautiful.

This poem reminds me so much of something that I've recently gone through and am still going through. It's so hard to lose a friend to someone else...especially when YOU knew them first. That hurts. This peom hit close to home so I have to give it a 5/5
