The Magic Watch

by Verity Han   Aug 29, 2007

I have a friend who has a watch,
Every time, it would go tick tock, tick tock.

This tiny watch is shaped like the Earth,
Like the one we stand on today.

One day I watched my dearest friend.
Haunched over the desk, head bowed.

At afar I thought he was reading,
But look closely, he is not.

I watch as little shivers run up his spine,
I watch as his body quivers.

He clenches a fist and bites a sleeve,
And grind his feet on the floor.

His eyes are covered and I cannot see his face,
But I go up to remind him:

"Your tiny watch is shaped like the Earth.
Everything stands on it.

Cars, people, houses, and animals.
They all rely on the Earth.

But it copes with this heavy burden,
And it still stays upright.

And your watch is still going
Tick tock, tick tock."
