The Fall of Icarus

by Vesper   Aug 29, 2007

There once was a boy
He dreamed of the sky
He had one desire
He wanted to fly

Over the clouds
Higher and higher
His mind was engulfed
By that vision's endless fire

He prayed to the Gods
He knelt and he cried
And finally he was graced
By the Heavens' holy might

He got what he wanted
Wings of pure gold
But blinded by power
The boy grew too bold

He reached for the sun
Reckless and brave
His wings then melted
He felt the cold touch of the grave

Falling down from the sky
Over lands and seas
He suddenly realized
He had found peace

His death lay below
That was for sure
But he had lived his dream
His heart would die pure...

Excellently written piece, from the beginning to the end. I like the mythological topic. Whole poem contains great great and vivid imagery, and you did good job with rhymes.
The ending stanza makes great conclusion to the whole poem, especially two latest line.
    Keep writing!
