Death and Life Again

by david kessel   Apr 30, 2004

If you ask me how I want to die,
I will tell you:
I want to die peacefully in my sleep:
Go to bed in good health
And wake up in a hospital
As a new-born child.
Billions of light years away,
In a parallel universe
With the warm sun of future childhood
Looming ahead of me.

I want to come again
To a world where problems that I did not solve
Await me to solve them.
Where past lovers are back
Awaiting me to patch up old misunderstandings.
It will be life all over again
Billions of light years away,
Billions of years into the future.
All looking the way it did before.
All awaiting me
To enjoy and to repair it all.
