The Things He Carried

by Twisted Heart   Aug 31, 2007

Sweet memories, 'tis but a few
Upon his heart they come anew
To fill his mind and stay his breath
Once more tonight, before he rests.

Gentle dreams of summer days
Love felt warmth inside him plays
Such thoughts now fill his mind with ease
Caress his soul so tenderly.

His heart was opened up inside
From love she gave he couldn't hide
For fifty years they loved so deep
Now she is gone, his soul still weeps.

Sweet memories, caress his mind
And takes him back, to better times
When she was there inside his hold
Two hearts combined in one soul.

Tears fall upon the pillow down
Gentle weeps the only sound
Against the lonely night he cries
Love torn loss's lullaby.

Once more he gathers memories
Inside his heart, he places these
To be replayed time and again
Stored and carried there within.

Aweh I love this, it was so touching. Your wording was great and allowed the reader to relate all the while it still being a bit of a personal poem as well, shows your talent well there. Great job Dear.
