Broken Valentine

by Avrii Monrielle   Sep 1, 2007

I've been looking for somebody,
To stop this pain inside.
It seems that I have found him,
And I finally feel alright.

He understands my worries,
And he lifts me when I'm low.
He tries to be there for me,
And through him, I can grow.

My whole life seemed to bust,
Until our eyes did meet.
From that, I lost your trust,
But love was a gain for me.

I should have told my daring,
Secret to you in advance.
He was so sweet and caring,
I thought I'd have a chance.

But the truth started calling,
The moment he said yes.
You found out about me falling,
And I fear we aren't bests.

I didn't know you liked him,
I thought he could be mine,
But I guess that was a whim,
And he's a risky Valentine.

The risk I lost was you,
The one I called a friend,
Because, to say the truth,
I don't want my love to end.

I'm sorry that I hurt you,
But please don't try to steal.
I fear there's more to lose,
Like a love that's real.

(I wrote this poem for a contest where the person is finally in a good relationship, but their best friend is trying to steal their lover from them.)

I did like this, but at the same time something about it was off. I understand that it was for a contest, but it sets off a bad example to the younger age group -- saying that it is alright to throw away a friend for a lover. It can go two ways, really...the other friend isn`t a true friend or love is more important than friendship..I dunno, that was the only thing off on this poem. Other than that, it was perfect..your imagery was great and the flow was flawless.
