Just Like I Remember

by HOLLYWOODxBANGBANG   Sep 1, 2007

I saw him just the other day, with a girl on his arm;
She was smiling and I knew it was to blame on his charm,
And his eyes got wide as he smiled and waved me down,
I walked over to them, all the while doing my best not to frown.

He was just like I remember, with beautiful hazel eyes -
A heart of plated gold and dreams reaching to the skies,
He told me how he was, and introduced me to his new me;
She had blonde hair and blue eyes; prom queen pretty.

I tried my best not to cry, as I told him I`d moved on;
I said I wish he could meet him, but he was often gone;
He was a truck driver, he`d been all around the world;
It was a good enough cover for me, so the lies unfurled.

He said he was happy for me, and I said the same back;
I set out my broken heart for him, but filled in the crack;
And as we said good-bye, I faked a pretty ceramic smile;
We exchanged numbers and he said I could call once in awhile.

If it was up to me, I would lie straight to his face again;
`Cuz the truth is, I swore to him long ago: "Forever and ever, amen" ;
And when I said that, I kept a secret hidden in my heart -
If another girl made him happy, I`d accept it, even if it meant I fall apart.
