To The World

["You must be crazy!" She yelled as he got on his knees,
With tears in her eyes she stumbled through her thoughts;
And he looked up at her as he whispered: "Baby, please -
I know I don`t have much, so this promise is all I got."

He took her hand in his as he slipped on a tinfoil ring,
"I promise, with all of my heart, that I will stay true to you;
All those other girls out there, to me, they don`t mean a thing;
Because I got the world, it`s painted into your eyes of blue."

"You`re crazy, there`s so much more out there for you;
You`re just gonna be wasting your time, there`s nothing to me;"
His eyes widened as he sighed: "The only thing that`s true -
Is that I`m crazy, I`m crazy for you, and that`s how it`ll always be."

"But you can find so much better out there, why settle for less?" -
She argued back as he stood up to face her and smiled,
"To the world, you may not be anything; but to me you`re the best" ;
He replied as their teen hearts started running wild.]

She held the polaroid in her shaking hands as she sat alone and cried,
That day that Kodak had captured so many long years ago,
And inside her collapsing chest, her racing heart slowly begun to untie;
The patchwork was rusting, it was seen in her face white as snow.

Her breath was tainted with alcohol and cigarettes,
As her shadow danced across the wall in angst again,
And she wilted the pain seen in her eyes full of regrets,
Trying her best not to fall back into the memories of back then.

And hitting her knees, she looked up to the sky and screamed:
"My mama always warned me: "You just can`t trust an army guy,
You never know when they`ll leave you for their silly little dreams.'
To the world she was right, but to me; it was all just one big lie.

    This was such a sad piece. I loved the way you told the story of the Kodak in the begining and then brought us back to the present. You are always able to tell such great stories with your poems. :]
