The Perfect Night

by Krista   Sep 2, 2007

The night has arrived.
The one all teenagers
wait for.
Perfect hair, the perfect dress.
Perfect date, perfect night.
The pictures taken by her parents
are the last before her disappearance.
Her parents watch her and the boy leave the street
and walk inside smiling.
Her friends wait for her
at the prom.
An hour passes
she still hasn't come.
The prom is over
She never showed up.
The date shows up
Saying he never picked her up
Someone already left with her
Claiming he was her date.
A few weeks pass
filled with grief and hope.
Then the call comes.
A small duffel bag in the woods
right outside the town.
The act was never seen
nor heard in the night.
Her date is crushed
Her friends are weary
from the searching and the
pleading done those weeks.
Her remains lie inside the bag
containing the dress never worn
the hair done perfectly
the life never used.
Prom was supposed to mean something.
But now it was nothing.
A waste of space.
A time not worth it.

This is unexpected, I can imagine her parents in shock, they just took pictures of their daugher.. all dressed up and happy.. hours later they get a phone call that shatters their world.. their precious daughter died in an accidnet..
Amazing poem.. and great choice of words..
