Take it Like a Man

by ben thompson   Sep 2, 2007

Spirit of happiness and life have you forsaken me and gone?
Sitting alone sullen and depressed, a prisoner for too long.

Red eyes openly weep, overflowing with salty tears.
Stuck in a vicious cycle, unable to reclaim lost years.

Spirit of life please return to lift my beaten soul.
Fearing deaths close behind, strifes taken a toll.

Lights of better times never seemed so far away.
Despondent I sit to ponder will I ever see that day?

I put on a smiling facade, as I enter through work's door.
Everyone thinks they know me, but not even I know me anymore.

Devoid of simple joys leaving my heart dreary cold and dark.
Sulking through swamps of sorrows bitterly dying and torn apart.

Knees buckle under weakness, I struggle to prolong my final stand.
Wondering where I went wrong as I try to "take it like a man".

I imagine this was very difficult to write and hopefully cathartic. It's also very brave to be able to confront and talk about our inner struggles. I hope you have been blessed since.
