Lyrical Lies [Glosa Verse]

Lines taken from the song Tongue Tied by Faber Drive

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I need a little more help than a little bit,
Like the perfect one word no one`s heard yet,
`Cuz every time that I try I get tongue tied,
I need a little good luck to get me by this time.

I hold my breath as I stare at his picture on my screen -
Gorgeous, with the brightest green eyes I`ve ever seen;
And I listen to him talk about his latest beautiful desire,
But he doesn`t know that he`s the only one I admire.
He tells me how great she is and just how well they fit,
So I fake a smile and tell him he just needs to admit it,
He says his thanks and goes on with her face in his mind,
But the ideal words to say, I just can`t seem to find -
So I hide my feelings for him, cower away like a hypocrite;
I need a little more help than a little bit.

Tongue tied and so afraid, I sit reading over our notes;
With a lump of resistance stuck inside of my throat,
To tell him or not to tell him, a decision I despise;
He can see the agony, it`s painted through my eyes.
So I watch him talk to her, swallowing my regret;
I had my chance but I put it out like an old cigarette,
And I write out the words to fit with what I feel,
But no metaphors or themes can make it real.
So I lay out my hopes on a blank page, a word to get -
Like the perfect one word no one`s heard yet.

The vodka and tears try their best to leave some room,
For the picture of him and her that I have to consume,
But no matter how hard I force myself to see it,
His hand and hers just aren`t the perfect fit -
But she makes him happy and I can`t see over my pride,
So I lower my head and I try my hardest to hide;
He tells a joke, I fake a smile - when will it end?
I can`t stand beside him and be just his friend.
He asked me if I needed to talk, he`ll never know that I lied -
`Cuz every time that I try I get tongue tied.

Naivety had it`s shot, but I`m coming out of this headstrong;
`Cuz they say me and him aren`t right, but I`m never wrong;
My head tells me to let him go, but my heart knows me the best -
So I ignore the devil on my neck and listen to the angel in my chest.
I`m gunnin` for something that I need to have this time,
And I`ll set out to make all of my wrong words somehow rhyme;
`Cuz I could cover him in lyrical lies but nothing would fit,
So I`m gonna force the chorus and he can work with it;
I`m not gonna let him go and run away on my dime,
I need a little good luck to get me by this time.

Glosa-Verse: A Spanish form invented by court poets in the 14th and 15th centuries. An opening quatrain, called a 'cabeza' is chosen from another poet, or song. The glosa elaborates or 'glosses' on the quatrain with four ten line stanzas, their concluding lines taken consecutively from the quatrain and their sixth and ninth lines rhyming with the borrowed tenth.
