It was almost Christmas time
there i stood in another line
trying to buy that last gift or two
I'm really in the Christmas mood
standing right in front of me
was a little girl waiting anxiously
pacing around like little girls do
in her hands she held a pair of shoes
and her clothes were worn and old
she was dirty from head to toe
but when it came time for her to pay
i couldn't believe what i heard her say
"sir i wanna buy these shoes
for my momma please
it's Christmas eve and these shoes are just her size
could you hurry sir
daddy says there's not much time
you see she's been sick for quite a while
and i know these shoes will make her smile
and i want her to look beautiful if she meets Jesus tonight"
the counter clerk counted the little girls money
and she told the little girl " there's not enough money"
the little girl searched her pockets frantically
then she turned and looked at me and said
" momma made Christmas good at my house
even though most years she did without
but lady what am i going to do?
somehow i got to get her those Christmas shoes"
so i laid the money down
i just had to help her out
and i can never forget the look on her face
when she said " mommas gonna look so great"
she turned back to the clerk and said again,
" sir i wanna buy these shoes
for my momma please

i knew i caught a glimpse of heavens love
as she gave me a hug ans said thanks and ran out
i knew God had sent that little 4 year old little girl
to remind me what Christmas was all about.
