Cruel Charade
Copyright July 31, 2006 Corinne Curcio

Verse 1
Will the answer to this mystery be revealed?
How much of your soul do you conceal?
I can no longer tell what is false, what is real
Stop haunting and taunting me so

Verse 2
Your sweet whispered words ring untrue
But oh, how your passion burns right through
Can't you see the treasure in front of you?
My love is more precious than gold

Chorus
Oh, what a Cruel Charade
What a promenade of lies
I play my part
Give you my heart
While you don your dark disguise

Verse 3
No, you are not as you appear
Your smile seems to hold some secret here
It's a well polished, smooth veneer
That blinds me, and binds me to you

Verse 4
You're leading me so far astray
Just like a cat plays with its prey
All I ask is to let your mask fall away
Why can't you love me too?

Chorus

Bridge
When you step from the shadows into the light
You still are hiding in plain sight
Should I trust you to do what you know is right?
A stranger is a dangerous thing

Chorus

Tag
Tell me - have you played me for a fool?
Oh, how could you be so cruel!

I always enjoy your lyrical pieces - they flow like water. Although I haven't seen the film, your eloquant word choice makes the theme clear.
