Don't You Dare Stop

by lonelynow   Sep 4, 2007

"Don't you dare stop."
Says the voice in her head,
As she retches into the bowl.
Eyes watering, face red,
Nose running, heart hammering,
This'll make her beautiful.
Fingers further back, reaching,
Trying to touch her heart
To see if it's as cold
As her moonlit skin.

"Don't you dare stop."
Shouts the voice in her head,
As she runs away from food
And pretends like she's not being led.
The world around her dances
As she looks over her shoulder,
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight times,
So sure someone's watching.
"Eat in eights," she whispers,
"And all they'll see is perfection."

"Don't you dare stop."
Screams the voice in her head,
As she presses deeper and deeper
Into the tears she's bled.
She picks up a fork,
And forgets what it's for.
Her fingers clutch
At memories,
Oh if she could only remember anything,
But her hands are empty

"Don't you dare stop."
Say it again,
And somehow your world
Won't collapse when you do,
And everything will be fine.
"Don't you dare stop."
Whispers the voice in her head,
But it's too late,
She's already stopped,
Starvation's easier when you're dead.
