Wiskey drowns

by ben thompson   Sep 5, 2007

Traveler of a well worn path with bad decisions abound.
Whiskey never helped although I drank enough to drown.

Searching for a savior praying down on bended knee.
Sly serpent's fallacious salvation was a bottle of Jim beam.

Ragged and disheveled stumbling down a crowded walk.
Ashamed of myself I look away as the self righteous gawk.

Job and family a distant memory no one to hear my pleas.
Crying alone in my card board box picking off rogue fleas.

Days of youth and promise forgotten from a time long ago.
Twenty years later paints a picture of a failure on skid row.

Lord if given another chance I'd surely make things right.
Instead I'm another sad example of how alcohol ruins a life.
