Ethereal World

by Rebecca   Sep 5, 2007

Slow, sleepy eyes, gradually awaken,
A blank mind tunes back into reality.

Despite the warm rays of the piercing sun,
A rusty haze hovers around her.

The flowers around her seem distant and faded,
The fog around the mountains does not dissipate.

The long blades of grass seem to be painted,
But yet, are still rustling from the lifeless breeze.

Little critters hop and scurry around the luscious trees,
Concealing a secret that no one else knows, but them.

Wandering about, her bare feet walk on jagged rocks,
But yet, her feet do not feel any pain.

Her pure white dress drags on the dirty ground,
But yet, it does not get stained with impurity.

She kneels on the shore of a desolate pond,
Looking into the glassy texture of the crystal water.

Frowning, she sees no reflection looking back,
No familiar face to smile back at.

Feeling enraged, the vacant sun hides its flowering face,
The haze dissolves into the blackening sky above.

The thunder is music to her ears, the lightning her night light,
Soft blue raindrops fall, gently kissing her face.

She feels the refreshing liquid sink into her skin,
But yet, not one inch of her feels wet.

The night sky turns back into a dreamy haze,
The sun reveals itself, filtering the changing sky.

Dawn welcomes the day with endless red rose pedals,
Delicately floating in the air, they cover the ground in a red blanket.

She will never know the true meaning of this world,
Or whether it is real, surreal or all in her mind.

Lying by the distant flowers, she closes her eyes,
And shuts off her mind, to once again fall asleep.
