Battle weary and tired
The man returned,
From serving his country
And suffering wounds and disease,
To work hard
To raise a family,
War had been waged
And he had fought
A country he held dear,
It paid him no heed
Until his very own battle began
The war had ravaged him
Paid him with bad health
But life at home was now a family
His past was of the war
And try as he might
His future would hold the remnants
A death on a hospital bed
With only those he loved
Buried in a cemetery
Where he now lies forgotten
