Daddy's Little Girl

by Dee   Sep 7, 2007

Daddy's little girl
Divided between you and me
But suddenly she is tuning in
To Mommy's misery

Can she sense that trouble lies ahead
In her made up family life
She sees her mommy and her daddy
And she asks us not to fight

She has Mommy in the morning
To feed her and get her dressed
Mommy takes her to the bus stop
And gives her goodbye kisses on her head

Daddy greets her in the afternoon
And asks her how was her school day
He lets her get a snack
And then takes her outside to play

Mommy is at work
And she gets home late at night
Missing those little moments
For the first time in her life

Now he is getting all the glory
He is reaping the rewards
He reads her another bedtime story
While Mommy is ignored

He does not deserve the attention
For he never showed he cared
Since the time she was an infant
It was her Mommy who was always there

Working a trillion hours
Because Mommy was the hoist
Daddy lived the easy life
And Mommy had no choice

She kept this family going
Even though she should have walked away
But she never could go through with it
He always convinced her that she should stay

All the hours Mommy worked
With her child attached at the hip
Starting early in the morning
And she never complained a bit

She stuck right by her Mommy's side
Thinking that the office was her home
Nothing new about going to sleep at work
And waking up at home

Missing the late night drive
27 miles down the road
She really had no clue
About how her Mommy shouldered all the load

Mommy was good at pretending
She never let her see a frown
She always found a way to smile
She was so used to being let down

He claimed he would do better
And that he wanted us by his side
But he is just full of broken promises
Made up of all his bullshit and his lies

From the time she was two months old
She went to work with Mom
They were never separated
Until the first day that kindergarten would come

Mommy and Miss Brandi
Are trying to work this out
Even though they both are smiling
They are still full of doubt

The hardest thing that Mommy has done
Is walk away from her little girl
But they are both very strong
And determined to make it in this world.

A mother-daughter connection
Established at an early age
A never ending devotion
And not just a passing phase

This mother and daughter connection
Was built with confidence
Because of Mommy and Nana
And their strong female dominance.
