Goodbye

by Gem   May 1, 2004

I always said I'd be there to protect you,
But when you needed me most, there was nothing I could do.

Now the joyful days are gone,
And happiness seems wrong.

You were the best thing to ever happen to me,
You showed me how to be free.

Please tell me why you had to leave,
And why you no longer breathe?

We spent our lives together,
We planned to live forever.

I have cried so many tears,
And found the truth in all my fears.

I am a broken mess upon the floor,
My heart is aching and my tears are sore.

You still had so much life to live,
So much love that you didn't have time to give.

Before you went, I wish I'd said thank you,
Because there are so many things you helped me through.

On your grave I'll place pretty flowers,
But nothing can replace the lost hours.

I hope you are happy, wherever you are,
I know you're looking down on us like a shining star.

So you'll lie there in your grave,
The one saviours couldn't save.

You didn't deserve to die,
But still we have to say 'goodbye'.
