Uphill Battle, Downhil Slide

by Tom Martin   Sep 9, 2007

Circle of life
It's the way things go
Newton's third law
Life begets death
Death begets life
To live is to die
To love is to feel
To feel is to live
The circle repeats
Several different forms
But all the same once again
Ashes to ashes
Dust to dust
We are all part of
Earth's big Crust.

Feelings and emotion
Fantasy and reality
Slap me in the face
Both at once
Left and right
Top and bottom
Front and back
Someone dies
Someone gets older
Some regress
Some progress
Fate is a lie
Age but a number
Nothing to tell us
If we're awake
Or merely dreaming.

No matter what I try
Or thoughts I have
Will change the fact
That I am older
Not younger
Family dies
Family grows
It's one large ritual
Many facets
Just to survive.

I do not matter
We matter.
