Don't Let me Get Me (Rondeau)

by Jenni Marie   Sep 10, 2007

Trying to destroy myself, don't let me get me
Just want to be free, yet I'm my own worst enemy
Always tearing myself up, day after day
Don't believe anything will ever be okay
And yet all I want, is just to be free

Slowly drowning inside, can nobody see?
Can't escape these demons inside of me
Every day doing nothing but pray
Don't let me get me

Slowly suffocating in misery
Destined to be chained, never free
Can't explain this pain, nothing to say
Praying just to make it through each day
Demons eating away inside of me
Don't let me get me.

A Rondeau is a French form, 15 lines long, consisting of three stanzas: a quintet, a quatrain, and a
sestet with a rhyme scheme as follows: aabba aabR aabbaR. Lines 9 and 15 are short - a
refrain (R) consisting of a phrase taken from line one. The other lines are longer (but all of the
same metrical length).
