The Street

by ibrahim muhammed   Sep 10, 2007

I have been on the street all my life
the street with all manner of vices
vices that include the good and bad
urchins hanging out, desperate for their

next victim
hustlers displaying their lustful attire
arsonist waiting to pounce on unsuspecting

passerby
the beggar with outstretched hands,

expecting stipends from passerby
homeless waiting for dusk to scramble to

their hiding place
hookers beckoning to share in their sin
how long am i gonna dwell in midst of

this,
can i get to see the dawn of morrow
amidst all this hullabaloo

i have always wanted off the street
to dwell in the abode of the mighty
where my mind and thought will be at rest
devoid of all the vices of the street
is someone out there willing to show me

the route
the route leading out of the street
out of the countless vices that is the

street
is there somewhere i must have to go
is there something i need to do
tell me, tell me quick
am running out of patience
so afraid of what morrow holds for me
on the street
