Love is like a fire

by Dee   Sep 10, 2007

Love is like a fire
It takes time to make it glow
It starts out as a spark
And becomes a flame that grows

Sometimes it is like a forest fire
That burns out of control
Sometimes it warms you gently
But neglect burns it out it turns cold

Through time you learn to nurture
To keep the flame alive
You find that when you walk away
The fire does not survive

But sometimes the burning embers
Are still smoldering deep within
And it just takes that little spark
To get the fire burning again

Love is much like a fire
It can warm your heart
It takes nurturing to make it stronger
And without it, you grow apart

Through life's trial and tribulations
And some help from up above
And like the fire, you learned to care for
You learned what it means to really love

You learn from your mistakes
You choose to grow from the ones you made
And wake up feeling much stronger
Than you were yesterday

The fire keeps on growing
Like the love I have inside
It it easy to get it started
But it can take a lot to keep it alive

If you want to keep it going
Than you must take my advice
I discovered it while doing some soul searching
During the loneliest times of my life

I stepped out of my world
And took a look inside
And realized what was missing
Was the one true love of my life

Sometimes the one who you are with
Is not the one for you
Sometimes you have to walk away
To make your dreams come true

Maybe you have walked away
From someone meant to be
And ended up with someone else
Who does not fulfill your needs

Some fires just extinguish
Because the foundation is all wrong
Nothing will keep it going
And you knew that all along

If you both give time and dedication
Honor, love and respect
And top it off with all the little things
Two hearts will surely connect

If you love each other
Then I have no doubt
You should never walk away
Find a way to work things out

No relationship is perfect
You do not always see eye to eye
And certain stages of your relationship
Resemble the changing of the tides

Weather the storms together
It makes you much stronger in the end
True love is not just a husband
He is your lover and best friend.

A beautiful burning fire
Two hearts that beat as one
The two of you finally together
A great life has now begun

I found this site by searching for a poem such as yours to use in my next book, with permission, of course.

You make some valid & important points, and for that I rated this a 4. I'm not a very good poet and am not familiar with very many forms--just a few. Hopefully, now that I am signed up here I can get some pointers. Blessings.
