The Monster

This is a story, not a poem. Its for Creative Writing class, just so ya know. Its about 2 1/2 pages long on Word Perfect, if you take the time to read it, THANK YOU!! and please tell me what you think. (BTW its supposed to be a short story.. so .. yea) ENJOY!!

His hands were thick, his fingers big and beefy. His breath held the smell of stale smoke which blended in with his surroundings in the dank storage shed. Boxes upon boxes stacked behind him as his past began to catch up to his dark present. "Sherrilyn" he gasped.
"In more ways than one, Drix." She laughed as she saw the expression on his face."Not even my death could keep from seeking my revenge. Did you think I wouldn't find you? Even in this place I can still feel your evil radiating around the things you touch. It was just a matter of time before you slipped up. But that won't happen again. Trust me." Her voice turned cold and icy.
"You cant hurt me." He screamed at her, but his actions disproved his words as he flung up his arms in defense. Sherrilyn laughed at his audacity but moved no closer.
"I dont have to physically harm you in order to hurt you. Besides, Id rather you suffer like you made me." When Drix felt nothing touch him, confidence seemed to crawl its way along his revolting body.
"You cant touch me at all can you?" he asked, slowly walking toward her. Sherrilyn stood still, neither denying nor acknowledging the fact. She had long silken blonde hair and bright green eyes that grew in anticipation as he stepped closer, but his egotistical side had already taken hold.
"Want to try it?" she whispered. Drix didnt even hesitate as he stood close enough to smell her perfume. He raised his hand and whipped it around forcefully, backhanding the woman in front of him. Sherrilyn didnt even flinch. "Is that all you got" Fear began to slip into Drixs mind and she put her hands on his chest and pushed viciously. Drix flew against the wall. "Idiot. Do you really think I'd come to you with no more power but to taunt you with words? For years you tortured me endlessly, and you of all people know what they say about payback. And as a final warning: Be careful how you act toward women, especially that new little wife of yours. I'll be waiting."
Drix lay there, drifting in and out of consciousness for hours before hunger finally worked its way into him enough to wake him. He stood up slowly feeling the wall wondering when it had gotten so dark outside. He made his way to his car and by the time he got home, he convinced himself that Sherrilyn was nothing more than a dream.

She watched him closely, this time making herself invisible to him. But she soon became bored.
Sherrilyn could read the thoughts of the maids of anyone that struck her fancy and right now that someone was Stacy Garfield, A.K.A. Drixs current spouse.
She floated toward the mansion where he lived and walked through the door and climbed up the single flight of stairs and made her way to where Stacy stood, gazing out the window. "Odd place for a ghost to visit." Stacy said.
"Only if youre not expecting one, which it seems like you have." Sherrilyn replied, allowing herself to become visible again. "I saw your husband earlier. He should be home soon. You mustnt tell him I was here."
"I doubt he'd believe me. Hes much too addicted to the thought of me cheating and lying that recently anything Ive said lately hes taken to mean the opposite. So Ive taken to hiding when he gets home to avoid the encounters." Bitterness was thick in Stacys voice.
"How did you know I was here." Sherrilyn asked after a moment of silence.
"Consider it a . . . gift for lack of a better word. Something my mother passed onto me."
The front door suddenly slammed. "Stacy" Drix yelled as he stormed up the stairs.
Images of what he could do to her flooded Stacys mind, forcing her to fall to the ground, helplessly.
How has he had that much effect on her so soon? Sherrilyn wondered.
"You have to go. Hurry!" Stacy whispered harshly, desperately trying to control her frayed emotions.
"I wont leave, but he wont know. Trust me. Youll be safe." Sherrilyn willed herself unseeable. Stacy only nodded, forcing her legs to hold her as her husband burst into the room.
"Crying again, my pet?" he asked.
"I never cry in front of you." She replied, swiping the tears away.
"I thought I taught you last time not to lie to me, Stacy." He stepped toward her only once.
Sherrilyn and Stacy both stood frozen, knowing what was coming as Drixs body tensed. "No." Sherrilyn whispered. But he didnt hear her. Once again he stepped forward.
"You will obey me, wife, if its the last thing you do." He raised his hand to caress her cheek. But she jerked away.
"You will never touch me again, Drix." She told him angrily, suddenly confident. She raised her face for the first time and Sherrilyn felt what was left of her stomach drop. Bruises covered Stacys face. Her lip was busted, bleeding slightly from the pull of talking. Her left eye was almost completely swelled shut. Thats when she noticed Stacys arms. Why hadnt she seen that before? Fingerprint sized bruises were everywhere, knots on her shoulders and cuts all over her legs. "I will not be your obedient slave any longer."
Drixs face contorted in rage. He raced forward, catching the back of her neck with his left hand, his right hand forming a fist. "No!" Sherrilyn yelled.
The window behind Stacy flew open, and wind whipped across the room, throwing paper into the air. Drix froze and slowly released Stacy, dropping her to the ground. "Sherrilyn?" he whispered.
"She will be the last person you will ever harm" Sherrilyn screamed as she drew in all her energy and pushed herself toward him, flailing her outstretched claws. They connected almost instantly with his cheeks, drawing beads of blood in a line along his face, as she continued to hit him. He stood, frozen in place until one nail sliced a small part of his eye. He howled in pain and reached out to grab her throat. But his hands just passed through her. "I'm still a ghost, and you cannot touch me!" Sherrilyn continued to yell.
Suddenly Stacy stood. "Wait." She said. Sherrilyn rose shakily, unaware as to how she was on the ground on top of him and stepped to Stacys side. Drix picked himself off the ground and stood, his back to the window, and for once he said nothing.
Stacy felt the years of pain and suffering at the hands of the man she had once loved with all of her soul cover her body. Memories rushed in her mind and she stood, her eyes gazing in the distance as if watching a movie. She remembered their first date, the roses, the love letters, the late night calls. She remembered him cooking for her, bringing it to her in bed, snuggling with him all morning long. She remembered the first time she told him she loved him, the engagement party, the wedding soon after followed by the perfect honeymoon. She remembered every good thing that past between them and sighed. "You promised to love me, Drix. Cherish me, protect me. Even if it was from you. 'Til death does us part." She whispered. "You said we'd be together always, that you'd never hurt me . . . how I wish you hadn't lied." Stacy walked over to him and kissed him tenderly on the lips. "I'lll see you in hell." She whispered. And with that she pushed him out of the window, without a thought she followed and wrapped her arms around him, Stacy felt the rush of the air as she joined him. "I love you, Drix." She said. The crack of his skull was his reply as she, too, fell on the unforgivable ground.
Sherrilyn stood amazed at what just happened and walked slowly to the window, peering out. Two bodied lay intertwined on the concrete, unmoving as the Angel of Death waited to take the souls.
Suddenly she felt a hand on her shoulder and turned around slowly. "Thank you." She heard Stacy whisper. Sherrilyn could only stare as a golden light streamed in through the darkness and enveloped her in warmth. Her time on Earth had come to an end. A feeling she had never experienced to the full effect engulfed her. Utter peace was now hers. Sherrilyn raised her hands and basked in the light and felt herself rising. She glanced down once and saw Stacy grab Drixs hand and walk toward Death. "I love you, too." Drix whispered to Stacy, and Sherrilyn saw the happiness radiate in their faces, even as the shroud covered them and took them away.
Regret filled her, but it soon passed. Bad emotions, she knew instinctively, would not last long where she was going. Sherrilyn closed her eyes and raising her face to the sky, she let the clouds welcome her to her new home.
