A Right To Be Angry

A Right To Be Angry

You told me something regarding your dad
About the day he so tragically died
How he was drunk and then drove home
No wonder there's nights when you've cried

There must be so much anger there
How could he go and leave that way
While you were waiting to be picked up
You realise he has forgotten you today

You start to walk the road to home
After waiting an hour at the school
Not really sure who you should blame
For making you feel like a fool

You enter the house and close the door
There's a coldness filling the room
Later you learn all the answers
And my face displays nothing but doom

Two policemen arrived about seven thirty
The look on mums face was enough
I knew the news was about dad
And to hear it was ever so tough

My dad was out with mates drinking
He passed the limit 7 times the red
If the accident had'nt of killed him
He would have otherwise been clinically dead

I can see the disappointment in you
While you told me how that day went
But why are you holding your anger in
Its these emotions you do need to vent

Go ahead and be angry with your Dad
For taking all your dreams with him
Everyday you would be in his shadow
And now you see your future so grim

Its hard to accept after all this time
That your dad could be anything less
Than the most perfect being in the universe
Who would sort and fix up any mess

He had faults just like we all did
Made mistakes and paid for them dear
My dad was all that I wanted him to be
But god I wish that he was still here
