I can...

by Valiantpenguin   Sep 12, 2007

When I was young
You would always tell me
"No you can't be that, It'll never happen."

I dreamed of being a soccer star
Being the best goalie in the world
Having little kids run up to me
Asking how to be as good as me
But you shot those dreams down

I dreamed of being an actress
Being in the big movies
Having every young girl dream of being me
But you shot those dreams down

I dreamed of being a singer
Showing the world my best talent
Be a role model for children and teens around the world
Show them not every star is thin as a twig
and the fat ones are just as good
But you shot those dreams down

Now I don't tell you my dreams, dad
Because I want this dream to last
To be secure with who I am
To be what I want to be
And to live my latest dream
I won't tell you, dad
Cause you will shoot those dreams down

I think a lot of people can really connect with this poem... not exactly saying everyones dad is like that... but to the extent of people's dreams being shot down.

I like being able to relate to the peom I'm reading.
