Army poem

by Valiantpenguin   Sep 13, 2007

Green is their color
Proudly they wear it
Day after day
They put on their uniform
They grab their only protection,
Their wife, Their best friend,
Their gun...

When the day is finally over
And they can read the letters from home
They cry when they read about the baby
being born, or taking it's first steps...

Or getting a letter from their best friends at home
Hearing their wifes cheating

They see children dying,
the women crying,
people bleeding everywhere they turn
it's amazing their sanity is still with them

No one knows how hard it is for them
No one asks, when they should
Because they deserve to tell their story
They deserve the respect they lack
They deserve the cheers, and the tears
They receive
when they finally come home
or when they leave...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
dedicated to my Uncle Geoff, who is an amazing man and who served over in Iraq and where ever else, for many years, who has 2 beautiful baby boys, and a lovely wife who waited for him. he is home now and will be training to be a drill instructor
also dedicated to David Newman, my friend who has just recently joined the army, i have no idea where he is right now. i think hes in basic training or something....
But mostly it is dedicated to all the men and women in the world who serve us everyday and we give them so little respect, and so little acknowledgment. I hope they all come home safe...
