One

by resisting reason   Sep 14, 2007

The door creeps open
and i step through
nervous and scared
i see only two
they stand and they stare
they grin and they glare
i try to turn and run
but my legs are numb
I'm stuck
i try to scream
but all is silent
everything is still
but i can feel the violence
i can not
i will not deny my fear
and between the three of us here
I'm the only one scared
and they walk
slow...but steady
they are coming closer
and I'm not ready
to face them now
so i scream again
but this time there is sound
but not from my throat
from their feet pounding the ground
and they're laughing
and running full out
as they get closer
they get closer together
closer and closer and closer still
just getting closer and closer until
they form to one
and only then do i see
that this monster...is me
