The Greatest Treasure

by Im Not Emo   Sep 16, 2007

He walks the streets day and night
Without a home in his view
Clothes drape over his body
in every hue of black and blue

Only one coin he held in ownership
And dearly he treasured this token
It was as dim as the dirt
But he kept glancing at it, again and again

I walked up to him one day
and asked why he had that coin
He looked at me with his old grey eyes
And told me i wouldn't understand

I told him to explain it anyway
So he gave me a kind smile
He asked if I'd mind staying long
His story was said to take awhile

His tale was a sad one
Full of grief and sorrow
This coin was from a loved one
who died just a year before tomorrow

He stared at his coin
For quite a long time
Then he handed it to me
Saying it was now mine

I couldn't except it
But he kindly said please
Placing it in my hand
Giving it one last squeeze

He said life is too short
Too keep something forever
Thats why I give it to you
For you became my friend, and thats my new greatest treasure.
