A Soldier, He Will Always Be

by Twisted Heart   Sep 16, 2007

She sat among the flowers fair
Upon the ground they lay
Red Roses and white daffodils
Adorned the many sprays.

Upon the tomb were simple words
"A father and a son
A life Cut short, He died too soon
His Life Had just begun"

She takes a flower from his grave
And rolls it in her hand
Why did her father have to die
She'll never understand.

He was so strong, he was so brave
He fought for what was right
Inside her heart she feels the pain
That grips her every night.

The months that he was off to war
They went away so slow
And then a letter came one day
His death the final blow.

She feels the rage fill up her heart
As tears fall from her eyes
Could she have changed just anything
So he wouldn't have had to die.

She sits among the flowers fair
And wipes her tears away
She must be like her father was
Today, be strong and brave.

Oh my word. Patriotic poems always get to me, and this one did none other than that...every line in this tore at me as if I was that little girl trying to find a way to be strong for a man that was so strong..great read, if I was able to vote, I would definately be nominating this !
