I'll tell you a story

by Katie   Sep 16, 2007

She was a lonely one
Very sweet and young
She loved meeting new people

He was an old one
Maybe late 80's or so
He loved to listen to people

She worked in town
And didn't have a car
No family or friends to help out

He was a bus driver
And picked her up on the way for free
He enjoyed her company

They talked every morning at 8:00
When he picked her up
They became great friends
It lasted through the summer

They knew nothing about each other
Only what went on each day
They never exchanged names
And they kept it that way

I rode the same 8:00 bus every morning
I listened to them and watched their friendship grow
Until the day she got on the bus to find someone else driving
First time ever

She sat quietly
Not a word was spoken
She finally asked where he was
To find out he was sick and in the hospital

She worried and cried softly
She continued to ride until the summer, as well as her job, ended
He never came back

There I sat alone on the old bus
They were gone
But they taught me a lot
You don't need to know everything about someone to be close with them
You simply need each other
To talk and listen

They got to know each other through only their personalities and words
They were closer than anyone I had ever seen
That's the kind of friend you never forget

A true story.
