Monsters in the '90s

by simplyshay   Sep 17, 2007

"Hush baby, there are no monsters under your bed." said a mother to her child.
Then she remembered when she was young and she asked her momma is there were monsters under her bed. He mother said,
"Hush baby, there are no monsters under your bed."
But her momma had no idea what it was like growing up in the '90s;
with fear of getting shot while grabbing the mail
with fear of getting high just to "fit in"
with the fear of joining gangs to feel loved, and needed.
with tears of crying at night over divorced parents.
the child lies in the dark and thinks to herself "Good, mom fell for the lie. She actually thinks I'm scared enough to stay up longer."
then "BANG", a loud noise rips through the silence down the street.
"Drive by, get under the bed!" the mother screams.
Ten minutes later, the child and her momma are sitting on the bed holding each other, crying.
"There are monsters aren't there?" the child asks, whimpering.
"Yes honey, there are monsters. But their not under your bed."
