Please Hold Back

by Sheree Speaks   Sep 18, 2007

When I tell you that I'm glad to see you,
And when my heart is full of joy,
You seem glad to hear my voice
Even when you're really annoyed.

And when you told me make myself at home,
When I made your home my own as well,
I had no idea you might have been avoiding me,
When no one answered my call.

What about all the sentiment we've had?
New Year's Eve, birthday parties, thanksgiving dinner,
Your welcoming yard and your warm house
That was open to us summer or winter?

When you say you want to leave,
When you want to change your world.
Doesn't everyone have that same ambition?
But the way you talk makes my worries unfurled.

There are scars that never heal,
But remain for eternity.
A shell that get's toughr and tougher,
As more loved ones leave me.

So how can I get over it?
How can I walk on your street without looking?
How can I look wtith dry eyes in your kitchen window,
And not somehow see you cooing?

How can we see your yard,
And not get the urge to walk through to the door?
How can we get over it,
Like we have with other things before?

How can we not feel alone on Christmas?
How can we not feel torn in halve,
When you're the one that comes around?
You're the only one we have.

So since when were we irrelevant?
What, we don't matter anymore?
I think this could be a big mistake,
Not the kind you can restore.

So please reconsider
When you want to leave and not come back,
Wait another winter for us all,
And try your best to hold back.
